Pr. Aras Mattis, MD, PhD

Gastrointestinal, Hepatobiliary Pathologist

Dr. Aras Mattis’s work focuses on diagnostic and research aspects of gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary pathology. He provides expert interpretation of histopathologic changes in liver, gastrointestinal, and related surgical pathology specimens and supports clinical and translational research efforts at UCSF.

He also serves as Director of the UCSF Biospecimen Processing Lab and contributes to multidisciplinary programs including the UCSF Liver Center. His diagnostic and research interests include metabolic and fatty liver disease, steatohepatitis, hepatocellular neoplasia, pediatric liver disease, and complex gastrointestinal and liver pathology

Dr. Cynthia Behling, MD

Gastrointestinal, Hepatobiliary Pathologist

Dr. Cynthia Behling’s work focuses on diagnostic and research aspects of gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary pathology. She provides expert interpretation of histopathologic changes in liver, pancreas, biliary, and gastrointestinal specimens and supports clinical and translational studies, including clinical trial histologic endpoints.

She is an active contributor to the NASH Clinical Research Network (NASH CRN). Her diagnostic and research interests include hepatobiliary neoplasia, metabolic and fatty liver disease, pediatric hepatobiliary pathology, and non-neoplastic gastrointestinal disorders.

Pr. Mojgan Hosseini, MD

Gastrointestinal, Hepatobiliary Pathologist

Dr. Mojgan Hosseini’s work focuses on the morphology and diagnosis of gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary diseases. She provides expert interpretation of histopathologic changes in human GI, liver, pancreatic, and biliary specimens and supports multidisciplinary clinical and translational research efforts at UC San Diego.

She serves in leadership roles within surgical pathology and gastrointestinal pathology services. Her diagnostic interests include gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary neoplasia, inflammatory and non-neoplastic GI diseases, and complex diagnostic challenges in digestive system pathology.

Pr. Kay Washington, MD, PhD

Gastrointestinal, Hepatobiliary Pathologist

Vanderbilt University

Dr. Washington’s research focuses on the morphology of gastrointestinal and hepatic diseases. She provides expertise in interpreting histopathologic changes across animal models of gastrointestinal disease and supports basic scientists at Vanderbilt.

She serves as director for several research tissue banks, including the CHTN Western Division. Her diagnostic interests include Barrett’s esophagus, colorectal neoplasia, inflammatory bowel disease, primary immunodeficiency–related GI pathology, and mouse models of intestinal neoplasia and inflammation.
